Assalamo Alaikum, Ola & Hoşgeldiniz !
Aren't proper introductions always so properly boring?
It's my 5th attempt at "about me" from the scratch. I truly find it quite hard to describe my being in front of an audience bit by bit. So, to make it interesting, let's do an interview of "me". Oui?
What's your name, Milady, and what are you doing here?
I'm Pervisha Khan , born as Pervisha Khan Ruhul Rubab to a very wonderful family in Lahore, Pakistan. And I'm the boss over here, you see. The author and the lady of the blog.
Did you go to school, or college?
Oh Yes! Alhamdulillah. Not only to a school, but I also went to a very prestigious University and recently (in March 2014) acquired my shinny Mphil degree in Mass communication, Research.
What do you do for a living?
I live. Simple.
Right! So, who's khanum? Another author on the blog?
No, no. She's my alter ego. My pen name for blogging. And also my nick name among friends.
We see that you have your own website. When did you decide that this world needed you as a blogger and why?
A very good question. But this domain was only registered recently in 2014. I started blogging at wordpress as khanumsays from Pakistan in Feb, 2011, right after I graduated. The reason was the bug in my brain and the dream in my eyes. Ever since I was a kid, I had these 3 crazy ideas.
1- To work in NASA.
2- Become a famous Inspiring Author
Idea # 1 terrified my family. Idea # 3 gradually became very boring and Alhamdulillah I am over it. But this idea # 2 never left me. It still lurks in the background.
So the very loud voices in my head and thoughts on my mind that wanted to be heard, Writing them on paper and having my friends read them just never made me feel happy enough. You can say that I was a struggling writer. Therefore, one day , after watching Harriet the spy :blog wars, I decided to blog on my life.
It was not an easy decision to make. I wasn't sure if I would ever get anyone to read my stories but Alhamdulillah! I made it. And that success is the reason behind shifting to my own domain khanumsays.com in May, 2014. It was like a dream come true for me.
Oh! Amazing. But What do you blog about? we see no tag line.
That's where you have to be witty. I blog about everything that is exciting for me. Everything that I come across, any thoughts that get stuck in my mind or any adventure that I become involved in. It's on the blog.
To make it easy for you, the major categories are:
1. Photography (I do that alot - a part time photographer)
2. Writings (Both fiction and non fiction)
3. Travelling adventures (Whether its Khanum's visit to Sunday Bazaar or to The Republic of Turkey)
4. Reviews about places that I visit (Mainly Restaurants or cafes)
5. Food/Cooking (I love eating but making it is what I do only for the sake of blogging)
So, how are you doing as a writer?
Well, Alhamdulillah, its going quite good for me. In my early writing days, I was able to bag $140 as a prize money for my contributing piece in Fountain Magazine. This gave me more confidence to go ahead. So I also contribute my thoughts to Productive Muslim and Habibi Halaqas, where I'm also volunteering as an editor. So I believe It's going good. Not bad. Alhamdulillah
Wooa!! Eureka! It's so nice to know more about you and your story. You seem like a normal person. But mind if we ask you, what does "Khanumsays" mean? We feel you made a grammar mistake, perhaps forgot to give a space between khanum-says or something?
I'm glad you asked it. Because just like my name, "Pervisha", people sometimes can't get the meaning behind my unique blog name "khanumsays" either. Nonetheless, they continue to love it.
Khanumsays is not a real word, but 2 words joined together by me. When I created khanumsays at wordpress.com, I treated it as "Khanum says" with space in between and without even thinking much about its future. (The inspiration was from Dragon Tales cartoon that I used to watch alot and in one episode, it had a game "Simon says" so I randomly picked it up) But gradually, over the time, my followers started loving it as one new word, with no spaces. Keeping this in view, I called for voting over facebook and my friend Nadia advised me to go with Khanumsays without any spaces, because, in her words, this name sounds just so unique and foreign. And I agree. Savvy?
I'm very glad we had this conversation. If there is anything decent that I missed, you can ask me.
